Our Engineers put their knowledge to the test

27th July 2018

Covéa Insurance has become the first insurer to have its entire motor claims inspection team of engineers successfully pass the Institute of Automotive Engineer Assessors (IAEA) Vehicle Salvage Competency Examination relating to the new ABI Salvage Code of Practice.

The IAEA is a professional body referenced by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) within the Salvage Code of Practice to determine a candidate’s ability to meet with the standards required.

The team of inspecting engineers demonstrated their knowledge and adherence to qualify for AQP (Appropriately Qualified Person) status by correctly categorising salvage in accordance with the ABI’s new Code of Practice.

Barry Street, Head of Engineers (& Director of Thatcham Research) said; “I am extremely proud of what the team has managed to accomplish here. We have a deep rooted ethos of working to the highest professional standards and these results typify the quality that runs throughout the entire team.   Vehicle manufacturers are designing the construction of vehicles to the highest possible safety standards; so it was important for the code to keep pace with the complex nature of modern vehicles.

Les Minton of LM Automotive Solutions was the exam invigilator for the IAEA and commented; Although several candidates commented that they found the exam challenging these excellent results came as no real surprise. They are a vastly experienced team, a pleasure to work with and truly deserving of this industry first”
