The Olympics we've been waiting for

Tokyo 2̶0̶2̶0̶ 2021

It’s here, it’s finally here! The 2020 Tokyo Olympics are well underway and we couldn’t be more excited. We know it’s not the summer Olympics we’re used to with the lack of the loud, flag-waving and passionate crowds but it’s still a fantastic opportunity for us to the celebrate and watch in awe as the best athletes in the world compete for that sought after gold medal.

206 nations will compete in Japan over the 17 days across 33 sports, 4 of which will be making their Olympic debut; karate, skate boarding, sport climbing and surfing.

It’s not unheard of for someone to pick up a sport and then, 4 years later, compete in their first Olympic games. Take Team GB’s Helen Glover for example, she took part in a talent finding and development initiative funded by the National Lottery and started rowing in 2008. Within 4 years Helen went on to win a historic gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. So you could be a spectator this year watching Laura Kenny, Dina Asher-Smith and Adam Peaty do what they do best, but you could be competing in the next games in Paris in 2024 (with a lot of dedication and training we’d like to add!).

Depending on what sport you take up it could require some new equipment; new golf clubs, tennis racquets, a surfboard, a bike. And these new purchases could set you back quite a few pounds, so you’ll need to make sure they’re covered by your insurance.

Our Mid Net Worth & High Net Worth policies cover a variety of sports equipment. To find out more about our MNW & HNW policies, click here.
