Why are we supporting the ABI Flood Free Homes campaign?

2nd March 2015

On 20th January the ABI launched its Flood Free Homes campaign with a simple goal – for no home to be at high risk of flooding by 2025. The ABI aims to engage with all current and future parliamentarians to gain cross party support for long term solutions to manage all types of flood risk.

To achieve their aim, the ABI want all parties to agree to three measures; investing £1 billion per year to be spent on managing flood risk by 2025, adopting a zero tolerance approach to inappropriate developments in areas at high risk of flooding and agreeing to a cross-party consensus on long term plans to manage all types of flood risk.

The campaign has already gained widespread support with a number of local MP’s and companies publicly backing the ABI.

Adrian Furness, Claims Director of Covéa Insurance outlined why it is so important to support the ABI:

“The current under-investment in flood defences is of great concern. Having dealt with thousands of customer flood claims we have seen at close quarters the disruption and emotional distress such an event causes to householders, the effects of which can last several months. To negate or mitigate impact through adequate maintenance and investment in infrastructure and upkeep of flood defences could save needless distress for thousands of householders. We are fully supportive of the Flood Free Homes campaign which focuses attention on this important issue.”
